Why Bumblebees?

Bumblebees are essential

mouthfuls of food we eat relies on bee pollination.

Many wild plants, as well as some of our favorite food plants, like tomatoes and blueberries, rely on bumblebee pollination to produce fruit.

Many bumblebee populations are declining

24% of European bumblebee species are now threatened with extinction. Preliminary data from North American bumblebee assessments show similar trends.

Reasons for bumblebee decline include agricultural intensification - leading to habitat loss and increased pesticide use - as well as climate change and the introduction of foreign pathogens.

Bumblebees are in danger and the stakes are high.

IUCN Red List assessments are essential to understanding and preventing their decline.
